What a geofence does
A geofence is the property boundary doing its second job: the invisible fence Snowmass watches to decide when a machine has arrived on a property and when it has left. When a vehicle's GPS crosses into the polygon, the service visit flips to on the property; when it crosses back out having done the work, the visit can complete. This is what makes arrival times and ETAs honest rather than guesses.
Why accuracy matters
- Too tight a boundary and a machine working the far edge of a lot never registers as arrived.
- Too loose and driving past a property trips a false arrival.
- Snowmass ignores low-quality GPS fixes (it drops readings that are too imprecise) so a single bad ping doesn't fake an arrival — but a sloppy boundary it can't fix for you.
Keep detection reliable
- Draw boundaries that match the work — generous at entrances, tight where a neighbouring property could be confused for this one.
- Re-check tricky properties after the first storm: if arrivals looked late or missed, widen the entrance or nudge the shape.
- Split disconnected lots into separate properties so each has its own clean geofence instead of one polygon straddling a road.
A property with no boundary has no geofence — arrival still gets inferred from proximity, but far less precisely. Drawing the boundary is the single highest-leverage thing you can do for trustworthy on-property timing.
