Unsubscribing and email consent

How customers turn off emails, and what happens on your side when they do.

Confirmed before it's used

A customer's email address is confirmed before alerts go to it. Snowmass sends a confirmation email first, and an address that hasn't been confirmed gets no storm alerts. Consent is tracked on each contact, so there is a record of who agreed to what.

Two ways to opt out

A customer who no longer wants updates has two simple paths:

  1. Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any alert email. It stops alerts to that address right away. No action is needed from your team.
  2. Turn emails off in the portal. Customers with a portal account can turn alerts off from their own notification settings.

What opt-out does

  • The change is recorded against that contact, so future storms respect it automatically.
  • The preference persists until an operator re-enables it; a new storm won't quietly re-enable alerts.

Re-subscribing

Re-subscribing isn't self-serve. If a customer changes their mind, ask your team to re-enable the contact's email — an operator turns it back on and the customer confirms it again. Because consent is tracked explicitly, re-enabling is deliberate rather than accidental.

Keeping your list clean

Honoring opt-outs isn't just courtesy — it keeps you compliant and protects your sender reputation with inbox providers. Snowmass does the enforcement, but review your contacts periodically so you're not attempting to reach addresses that have opted out or gone stale.

Your responsibility

Snowmass enforces confirmation, quiet hours and unsubscribe handling automatically, but you are responsible for collecting consent honestly and keeping your contact list current. When in doubt, ask the customer to confirm the address they want alerts on.
