Distance unit (imperial / metric)

What it changes

The distance unit controls how Snowmass displays distances and speeds — on the dispatcher map, in navigation to the next stop, and in reports. Choose:

• Metric — kilometres and metres, with speeds in km/h. The usual choice in Canada.
• Imperial — miles and feet, with speeds in mph.

This is a display setting. It changes the labels you read, not how the swarm calculates. Internally the dispatcher always works in metres and seconds against real road distances from the routing engine, so switching units never changes a dispatch decision or an ETA — only the way that value is shown to you.

The geofence radius is always in metres

One deliberate exception: the geofence arrival radius setting is entered in metres regardless of your distance unit, because it's a precise engineering value tied to GPS accuracy. See the Geofence arrival radius article.

Choosing a unit

Pick the unit your operators think in. Most Canadian fleets use metric. If your crew is used to miles on their vehicles' odometers, imperial may read more naturally — it makes no difference to dispatch either way.
