How to create a restricted zone

Creating a restricted zone

1. Open Zones from the left nav, under Setup.
2. Click "New Zone". A form opens.
3. Fill in the form:
   • Type — select Restricted.
   • Label — a short, clear name (e.g., "Downtown construction," "Hospital grounds").
   • Active — check the box to enable the zone immediately.
4. Draw the boundary with the boundary picker: tap to add a point, drag a point to adjust it, and tap a point to remove it. Place points around the area you want to block.
5. Click Create Zone.

What happens after you save

• All vehicles' turn-by-turn navigation (and simulation routes) immediately route around the restricted zone.
• Restricted zones only steer navigation and simulation — they don't change which vehicle is assigned to a stop.
• If a stop is boxed in by a restricted zone with no way to route to it, the operator's map falls back to a dashed straight-line to the stop instead of a road route. Nothing is flagged "unreachable" (a dashed line usually means the zone was drawn too large).
• You can edit or delete the zone at any time from the Zones list; changes take effect immediately.

Tips

• Draw the zone boundary exactly where you want it — Snowmass uses the polygon boundary precisely for routing.
• Zoom in close when drawing to avoid accidentally including nearby streets you actually serve.
• Test the result by viewing a vehicle's next-stop route on the map to confirm it avoids the zone.
