Installing the operator tablet app
Add Snowmass to a tablet's home screen so it opens like a native app.
Tablet app & offline

A real app, no app store
The operator side of Snowmass is a Progressive Web App (PWA). That means you install it straight from the browser — no app store, no download, no waiting for updates to approve. It opens full-screen from the home screen and behaves like a native app in the cab.
Installing it
- Open Snowmass in the tablet's browser and sign in.
- Use the browser's Add to Home Screen option (in the menu or the address bar).
- Confirm. A Snowmass icon appears on the home screen.
- Launch from that icon — it opens full-screen, without browser chrome.
The exact wording varies by tablet, but the idea is the same on every device.
Why install rather than bookmark
- App shell cached — the interface loads even when the connection is weak, because its shell is stored on the device.
- Full-screen — no address bar eating space you need for the map and stop list.
- Faster launch — it's right there on the home screen for the operator starting a shift.
Keeping it current
Because it's a web app, updates arrive automatically — there's nothing to reinstall. Next time the tablet has a connection, it picks up the latest version on its own.
Once installed, you're ready to work through dead zones — see How offline mode works.
