How offline mode works
In a dead zone Snowmass keeps logging your position and syncs when you reconnect — but you can't claim new stops offline.
Storms happen where signal doesn't
Operators work behind buildings, in low spots, and out where cell coverage drops. Snowmass is built for that. When the connection goes, the app keeps working instead of freezing.
What keeps working offline
- Your position is still logged. GPS pings are buffered locally on the device (up to a few hundred of them) while you're offline.
- The app shell stays usable — the interface doesn't collapse into an error page.
- On reconnect, it syncs. The buffered pings upload automatically the moment signal returns, so your track isn't lost.
The honest limit: you can't claim new stops offline
This is the one thing to understand clearly. Claiming a new stop is a server-side decision — the swarm scores every machine's options live and awards each stop atomically so two vehicles never double-book. That decision can only be made when the device can reach the server.
So while you're offline:
- you keep logging position and can keep working the stop you already have,
- but the app can't hand you a new claim until you're back online.
When signal returns, your buffered pings upload and normal claiming resumes right away — usually within seconds. There's no manual sync to trigger; just keep working and let it catch up.
